Apocalyptic Insanity

In an unknown apartment lies the body of 21-year-old student Neo. He has an average face that is if you would look closely slightly on the good looking side. He has short black hair and black eyes and is around 182 cm (6 feet) and rather well build. Currently he has is eyes closed and has two wounds on his body. One knife wound on his stomach which is bleeding continuously and one wound one his neck that seems to be caused by a bite. He is dead, well almost dead. A lot of incredible things have happened in the last 5 days of his life.

On May 23, 2052 the world ended, what countless religions, prophecies and sects predicted came true. The first to report it was the news, they spoke of unknown asteroid shower that would happen in a couple of days. They said there was no need to worry, they would only graze the earth and pose no further threat.

Of course, there were some people who were not convinced by the news and started to panic. The end is near, let sinners beg for forgiveness and let the saints say goodbye to their loved ones. However, the majority of the 12 billion people on earth saw this as more of a joke, with the technology that has advanced over the years, vaporizing a few rocks in space should no longer be a problem. For example, the new colony on Mars has already eliminated asteroid storms in 2049. With the breakthroughs in laser technology and robotics in 2040, such matters will no longer be a problem.

Nevertheless the ”Earth Defense Force ” decided to counteract by vaporizing asteroids with a high-energy pulse laser. However, it turned out differently than most believed. Not only could the Asteroids not be destroyed, it even altered their flight path. Where a few asteroids used to be heading for Earth, after the attack they were all heading for Earth.

In the end it was too late to do anything, even the new Spaceforce, which consists of a total of 12 battle cruisers, could not cause any damage to the asteroids.

On Earth it all started with a very loud

”pppprrrruuuuuhhhhh ”

which would mean the arrival of a new world in the future.

In the past there has never been anything like this, all living beings on earth succumbed to panic and hysteria at the same time.

Those who had the power or money and could afford private spaceships were the first to flee. Politicians, high military personnel and the rich, all fled first. The poor and middle class were left behind.

The airport and spaceship bases were stormed by people in a panic and thats where the first casualties all over the world took place. Thousands died before the asteroids even made contact with Earth. And when the first asteroids collapsed, what was to be expected happened.

The unfortunate ones who were within a closer radius of the impact site were killed instantly or slowly died from the debris and earthquakes that followed. The lucky ones who survived the first impact found themselves in their cities completely destroyed.

Everywhere dead, suffering and misery. Hard to imagine where children were playing a few hours ago now lie the remains of houses. Where families used to have their homes, there are now only corpses.

Although it is unclear how many survived on Earth, there was still hope, not all people fled, most soldiers, police officers, security forces and aid workers were able to move out and help the injured. Furthermore, mankind is not only dependent on earth to survive as it used to be in the past. There are larger colonies on the Moon and Mars and a space station is currently being built in orbit that could hold up to 100 million people. The hope of surviving and getting help from the military gave people the courage to help and will to go on living.

However, things turned out differently than most expected again. Because with the asteroids something else came into the world. An unknown virus that will bring unprecedented consequences to Earth. This virus infected the dead who died in the first impact. After sometime the believed to be dead people stated moving again, standing up and making unrecognizable noises.

The helpers and police officers, like everyone on site, saw it as a miracle, the dead were returned to them. Who wouldn see it as a miracle?

However, things turned out differently again. When helpers reached the infected, they got attacked in return. Others could not help but put their loved ones in their arms. They were their children, mother, father, friend or loved one. However, in return they got bitten, scratched and attacked by them in the most brutal way without a flash of mercy.

However, it didn stop there, after biting the people, they ate everything they could get their hands on from them and started attacking other human.

All the people on site got into an unbelievable panic. They ran in different directions. Those who landed on the ground were either kicked to death by those running hysterically, or were bitten and eaten by the infected only to get infected themselves.

There were little the soldiers and police could do either, there were simply too few of them and there were too many civilians all in a panic, they didn want to shoot innocent people. But the high command reacted quickly and gave the order to shoot anyone who stood in the way, the infected are to be shot on side, one cannot afford such a virus and its outbreak.

After some hesitation, most soldiers gave up after some of them were attacked by the infected themselves.

They shot anyone who even looked infected since there was no way of knowing if they were infected. These shots only killed more people, while those who were infected only fell down, to get up again after some seconds and continue their pursued and rampage.

The first Defence fell pretty quickly and the number of infected only increased over time. Suddenly they were everywhere, on the streets, in hospitals, at gas stations, basically everywhere where there were a lot of people.

It took a whole day for the news to spread that those infected only really die by destroying their brains. At the time the death toll was estimated at around 5 billion and only time can tell how it will look in the future. Most of those who survived equipped themselves with melee weapons and scavenged as many supplies as possible. In small groups of mostly strangers, they tried to survive this hell on earth.

And so, this day will become the day of the bloody awakening. On this day it rained blood, arms, legs, intestines and brains from the sky.

And with that a new era was dawned, that of madness.
