Onigiri Making and High School Girls: Revenge Part 2

On the day of the sports festival, Mahiru arrived at Hiyori's house early in the morning and started making Onigiri under the watchful eyes of Hiyori and her mother.

Her skills were not very good, and although she worked hard and carefully in her own way, about half of the finished rice balls were misshapen or had ingredients that were sticking out.

After about an hour, Hiyori's mother, who couldn't stand it any longer, gave her some pointers, and Hiyori, who had tasted her failure, told her that the amount of salt she used was excessive.

“…I chose it just because it has good shape, and it looks pretty nice.
I'm sure your Onii-san will be pleased with this one, right?”

“U-Un! Now if only I could get the salt right…”

Mahiru clasps her hands tightly in front of her chest, as if concerned.
After all, this is her first dish without Yuu's assistance.
She's probably worried about making a fatal mistake somewhere.

Hiyori then puts her hand on her head and tells her, “It will be fine.”

“You worked so hard to make it so that Yamori-san would eat it, didn't you? I'm sure he'll be happy to hear that.”

“…Hiyori-chan…”

Mahiru nodded her head as if she was a little relieved at those words.
“Ehehe~” she told something to Hiyori while giggling.

“Thanks, Hiyori-chan.
I'm sorry for being so selfish all the time…”

“…Don’t worry about it.
I'm doing it because I like it.”

Hiyori then turns away from her best friend, who is telling her embarrassing things in front of her.
And just as Mahiru was giggling and laughing at Hiyori, her cell phone made a cute little pitter-patter sound.

“Hmm, a message? Is it from Aki-chan…? Huh, Onii-san…!?”

Seeing the text displayed, Mahiru swipe the LCD screen in a panic.
Then right after that—her expression immediately darkened.

“Eh? What’s wrong?”

When Hiyori asked that question, Mahiru looked emotionless and muttered,

“…Onii-san had to take supplementary classes that he missed the other day, so he might not be able to go to the Sports Festival until around noon…He’s not sure if he'll be able to watch the Obstacle Race I’m in…”

“Ehh….”

—The smile on Mahiru’s face was gone, and her best friend's mood had suddenly dropped.

『—It’s now lunch break.
Students are encouraged to have lunch in their respective classrooms.
Parents are asked to wait until the start of the afternoon session as indicated in the program.
I would like to repeat—』

As the students entered the school building from the ground where the school announcement was heard, Hiyori poked Mahiru in the side with her elbow.

“Go now, Hima.
You’re going to give it to your Onii-san, right?”

“U-Un…!”

Her best friend, who was nervously gulping down her saliva, took a deep breath and looked at Yuu, who was talking with Aoi.

In order to prevent food poisoning, she didn't bring that Onigiri Bento to the school grounds.
Therefore, she had to go back to the classroom and bring the Bento with her, and she was going to tell him that.

“I-I made a bento for you, I hope you like it.
I made a bento for you, I hope you like it…”

“Why are you rehearsing just for that?”

“T-That because…!”

“What do you mean because? Now, Just go…!”

“I-I know!”

When Hiyori said so and pushes her back, she stumbles and walks toward Yuu with a determined look on her face.
Then—

“Uhm, Onii-san…”

“Now then! Let's go to that ramen shop over there! You said you wanted to go there last night, right!?”

“Yeah, you’re right.
Let’s do that since we're here.”

“!”

When she heard the conversation between Yui and Aoi, she suddenly stopped moving.

“I heard that it’s really good over there.”

“I heard some TV crew came by a little while ago.”

“Hee~ Is that so? The kids in my class always recommend this place, so I've been curious about it.”

“I heard the lines are long, though.”

“It’s all right~ I've got plenty of time to spare today.
Come to think of it, that store—”

“……..”

“Hima…?”

As Hiyori wondered at Mahiru who had fallen silent and turned her head down, Aoi noticed them just then and called out to them, “Oh, Mahiru-chan.” Accompanying her, Yu, who was standing next to her, also looked at the girls.

“Nee~ Nee~ How about you join us, Mahiru-chan!? I heard there's a really good ramen shop in the neighborhood!”

“Just so you know, the students are supposed to have lunch in the classroom, right?”

“Eh~ seriously? Too bad, Yuu said he that it’s his treat…”

“I didn’t say anything about that…Are you two going to buy lunch as well?”

“T-That’s…” When they were by that question Hiyori was at loss for words and looked at Mahiru.

Then she slowly looked up from her prone position—and smiled brightly as usual.

“Yes! You two should go to that delicious ramen shop!”

“….!”

Hiyori was about to say something when she said those words to them…but the way her lips tightened made it impossible for her to so.

Then after seeing off Yuu and the others, who eventually disappeared to the school gate without mentioning the Bento, Mahiru continued to quietly look down at her own feet and apologetically said, “…I’m sorry, Hiyori-chan…”

(Tired: Wtf.
